*Cricket. Cricket*

So why have I been so quiet lately?  Because of the Bead&Button Show deadline, that's why!

This time of year, I spend a month or more creating new things, and testing them out, scrapping some ideas, and trying again so that I will be able to send in brand new class proposals to teach at Bead&Button the next year!  What did I come up with?

Well, these Glittering Firefly Brooch/Pendants for starters!  I also like to call this project "Working out the Bugs"!  They have been very well received by everyone so far, so I really hope they get picked!

And this necklace whose pendant some of you saw me working on at the end of May/ beginning of June.  It features a natural jewel beetle wing (elytra), and Swarovski Crystal Scarabs.

And, by popular request, I sent in Crystallized Bamboo Knitting Needles!  This is a fun and easy project that most students would finish in a 3 hour class.

Now, it usually takes a while for them to narrow-down the selections, so I'll let you know what they decide on.

Ultrasuede

Though I've had Ultrasuede for a long time in my Etsy bead shop, I have only now begun adding it to my regular website.  Sorry it took so long!  I really do love Ultrasuede to back a great many of my jewelry designs, so having a good stock of colors is essential.  The website currently has these colors:

Scoundrel Red

Black Onyx

Egyptian Green

There is currently a wider selection of colors on the PeacockBeadShop.Etsy.com, but rest assured that they will make their way over to the regular site in good time.

I took an Enameling Class!

This past weekend was the Rocky Mountain Bead Bazaar, held annually by the Rocky Mountain Bead Society, and I had the opportunity to take two classes involving Enameling with Kieu Pham Grey.  I loved them both!  The first was entitled Silver Illuminations and, as you might imagine, it involved enameling over Sterling Silver metal.  The second was called Riveting Enamels, which was enameling over copper, and the use of traditional rivets, affixed with a center punch, and hammer.  I enjoyed both classes, and now my mind is swimming with ideas on how to incorporate these techniques into my work.

My week at Bead&Button Show 2016

Let me start off by saying that I usually attend the Bead&Button Show as an attendee, and generally fly in to Milwaukee on Tuesday or Wednesday, so that I don't have to wait too long for the showroom floor to open to attendees on Thursday night. That being said, all of my classes were on Sunday, June 5th, so I had to fly in on Saturday to accommodate that schedule, and stayed a grand total of 8 days, flying out on day 9, and it was a long an epic week!

First off, my classes (the ones that I taught) went well!  I taught from 9am to 9pm, and had to pack up after that, so I was exhausted by the end of the day, but it was a good day!  I enjoyed meeting my students, and some of them came from as far as Israel to be at Bead&Button. The rest were a fair mix of Canadian and American.  We had a lot of fun, and everyone managed to get through the main parts of their projects with few issues.

I took a Micro-Macrame' class with Kerrie Sue Miller, who was a lovely woman, and a wonderful crafter.  Admittedly, I hadn't slept in several days at that point (I don't sleep great to begin with, but I really don't sleep when I'm traveling), and I had to leave the class a little early because my eyes had just given out by the time this evening class had rolled around, but I enjoyed the project, and will hopefully finish it at some point!  She had a neat macrame' board that she developed, along with a necklace template that she used, and I loved them, so I took them home with me.

Next, I took Photography for Artists and Crafters with Doug Baldwin.  It was interesting to learn the different techniques he put forth.  The most important thing that I learned was that I needed a $400 Macro lens to go with my $500 camera to really capture my beadwork well.  Though that was a bit of a bummer, I loved his light set up, and purchased one of my own.  Now to figure out where to put them....

I had a nice time in an Intro to PMC class that I took with Irina Meich.  Yes, THAT Irina Meich.  The one who writes all of the books ;) .  She was really great.  I've taken PMC classes before, but I like to take a refresher every few years so that I don't lost the basics since I don't get a chance to use those skills much. I made several little pendants that I adore, and hope to use sometime soon.  Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of them, and they are currently MIA, but I'll try to post a pic when I find them!

During the week, I wore my Beetle Wing Necklace a few times, and got a lot of complements.

I also wore my new Lemon Necklace, and Crystallized Lemon Yellow Shoes, and even got a compliment from Marcia DeCoster, who was also wearing crystallized shoes in Fuchsia and Ruby crystals.

Overall, it was a great trip, and I hope to repeat it next year!  I brought back a ton of new stuff for you all, and I will get it up soon in my Etsy site. www.PeacockBeadShop.Etsy.com

Jewel Beetle Necklace

When I had the idea for this broad collar, I'm not sure that I knew what I was getting into; I just wanted to use jewel beetle wings on a necklace!  There was a LOT of trial an error.  A LOT of drilling.  A LOT of breaking.  In the end, I am so very pleased with this necklace!
It features the Swarovski Crystal color Scarabaeus Green in several of it's forms, from rivolis to bicones, to a large center stone.  Notice how, in bicones and the large centerpiece, that there is a bit of bright purple in there with the green?  I love it!  I made this to wear during the week of Bead&Button 2016, and I thankfully got it done with a few weeks to spare.  Stop by my classroom on Sunday, June 5th (room 103C in the Wisconsin Center), or at my table at Meet the Teachers on Wednesday, June 8th to catch a glimpse of this beauty in person.

Classes at Bead&Button Show 2016

Though I've attended the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee for nearly a decade, this will be the first year I've gotten to teach! I'm so excited!  I have 3 classes, all on Sunday, June 5th.  The Peacock Feather Earrings has sold out, but there is still room for you in my Orion Earrings, and Lucent Chandelier Earrings classes.

And you can sign up on site since it's just around the corner! I hope to see you there!

The big change-over

If it looks like it's been a long while (almost a year) since I've written on this blog, that's because it kind of has.  Kind of.  I was concentrating on my own website, and had a blog off of it, which I wrote in quite often.  That being said, I'm having a bit of a difficult time porting over the posts that I made there.  I'll continue to try but, to be honest, most of it was new items and sales and, though I'm sure you will enjoy seeing those things from here on out, I'm not sure that you really desire to see those types of posts from the past.
I will be attending and teaching at the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee from Sunday, June 5th- Sunday, June 12th, and I'll be writing about that experience as much as possible. I hope you'll enjoy the journey with me.

At this point, I've moved nearly all of my supply inventory over to my Etsy site:  www.PeacockBeadShop.Etsy.com .  You can find my finished jewelry at www.ThePeacockShop.Etsy.com.   Please let me know if there's anything specific you're looking for, and I'll keep an eye out for it!

Warm Regards,

Megan

Hello and Welcome Everyone!

My name is Megan Savors, and I am a jewelry and accessories designer and self-proclaimed Multi-Crafter who owns a cyber Bead Shop called The Peacock Shop (or Peacock Bead Shop depending).  I actually run two different Etsy shops:  one for my finished jewelry, and one for beads and crafting supplies.

The purpose of this blog is to have an outlet for showing off my designs, and presenting the new beads available in my shop, as well as offering my thoughts on neat designs and craft supplies.  Please bear with my while I get things started.

In the meantime, you can visit my finished work site at www.ThePeacockShop.Etsy.com

and my bead site at
